FIFO means Fly In Fly Out.
Your employer will pay for your flights from the city to the remote site you will work at. You will generally stay on site for one to two weeks before flying back for a week off work.
Other similar jobs types are DIDO (Drive In Drive Out) and BIBO (Bus In Bus Out)
Your company will provide accommodation and food while you are on swing.
That's right, food and accommodation are free! Let the savings begin.
FIFO work generally has a lot of hours and higher hourly rates than working in the city.
You can expect starting pay of $35-40 per hour and 70-84 hours per week.
So with a no experience entry level job you can earn $3360+ per week. With zero expenses.
Yes! Many people work FIFO jobs on a Working Holiday Visa.
There are many entry levels FIFO jobs including cleaning, housekeeping, kitchen hands and trade assistants.
The most popular type of work is remote hospitality and mining.
417 and 462 visas allow you to work for a single employer for up to 6 months.
The good news is there are some exemptions. Mining, construction, and jobs that send you to work at different sites may be exempt from this work restriction. So you may be able to work in the same FIFO role for your 1-3 years.
See the Exemptions to condition 8547 article on the immi site for up to date information.
Certain roles will require tickets. Some employers will cover the cost for you, some will deduct the ticket cost from your pay. This all depends on the role.
We can provide information and advice on if you will need tickets and how to get them.
